This guide is designed to help parents get the most out of Securly Home, a powerful tool for keeping students safe on their school-issued devices at home. Not only can parents determine what their kids access on their school devices such as Chromebooks, but they can also track their activity on & off-campus.
(School administrators determine which settings can be modified by parents, and what kinds of student web activity can be displayed to parents.)
After logging in, parents will see the navigation displayed at the bottom:
Note: If your school is not using Securly Filter with Home, parents will only see the Pause and Schedules tabs, and notices if their activity is being monitored by other Securly apps.
In the More tab, you can find your account settings and get support.
Activity Feed
The Activity Feed feed tab provides a real-time view of a child’s online activity. Activities are displayed in chronological order starting with the most recent activity. Each entry will display the URL of the activity, the activity's category, the date and time, and the child that performed the activity.
Switch between multiple kids by tapping the Filters button and selecting a child.
You can also tap the Filters button and select Source to only see certain types of activities.
Flagged Activities
In the top right corner of the Activity Feed, tap the Flagged button to view a list of activities that Securly flagged as indicative of self-harm or bullying. This area of Securly Home gives parents a glimpse into potentially serious activities relating to their child’s well-being.
Pause Internet
Tapping the Pause tab will bring up a list of children. To pause or unpause internet connectivity for a child's device, simply tap the toggle button beside the child's name.
Rules
The Rules tab allows you to set specific rules for your child’s school-issued devices. The Categories menu lets you toggle allow or block different categories of websites (Pornography, Drugs, Gambling, etc.). Websites belonging to a blocked category will not be accessible on the child’s device.
The Categories menu also provides options to toggle on or off site and search engine-specific settings for popular websites, including Google’s Safe Search, YouTube’s Safe Video, and more.
The Sites menu allows you to enter specific websites to block. Sites can be removed by tapping the X icon on the right.
Schedules
The Schedules tab allows parents to set specific time windows that their child's device's internet access will be paused. Whether for bedtime or family time, parents can use this feature to encourage their children to take a break from their devices.
Turning on the “Bedtime” setting lets users create an offline schedule tailored to their needs. Parents can quickly select options to set schedules for School Nights and Weekends or build their custom schedule from scratch.
